What percentage of our new debt comes from pension funds, social security trust funds, state and local government reserves? What percentage comes from foreign governments? Why would any of our former allies continue to lend to us?
Who stands in first place if the federal government defaults?

It's both ironic and historically interesting that the first Democratic Party, formed in 1820, professed the bulk of what today's Republican Party professes as they lie. The Republican Party was formed in 1854 and six years later, Abraham Lincoln became its first President. It was the party of the common man and was also opposed to an existing law that permitted slavery in the 'new' western states. The rest of that history, is very interesting, if you are of a mind to check it out. Gradually, the parties began to change priorities and by Theodore Roosevelt, they had all but finished. That waited until 1932 to be complete, when FDR pressed for a Social Security program and the Republican opponents opposed it. Then WWII started. Extraordinary measures and a reasonable degree of bipartisanship got us through the war and continued for some time later while America was rebuilt. But, still, if we research properly, in Joe McCarthy's communist hunt, we can see Republicans beginning to become obstinately out of the mainstream. In Reagan and the Sr. George Bush, we begin to see the beginning of a change to a 'me' philosophy.
As things stand now, the Republicans are the party of greed, of self-indulgence and of the-hell-with-the-people approach. They think that they have created the art of the lie. Once they were good at; now it is so blatantly obvious when they attempt it, but they don't even care that we can see it. In their complacency, they went too far, by supporting everything that the orange-coated carnival barker wanted it. If the stars align properly, it will be both an ugly and a beautiful sight when they come crashing down in November. Then, it will be up to we the people to hold the Democrats to their promises We can kiss our collective behinds good-bye, if the Democrats simply assume the excesses of the spendthrift, heartless Republicans.

I restore Shy'Tyra's entire SSI income, so that she can breathe well again; I restore the SNAP benefits, so that 800,000 children will not die of hunger, a portion of whom would not be here, if abortion were not an option removed from the table. And, not only do I file for impeachment of every significant person in this administration, but also confiscate all the ill gotten income of everyone who received any. But first, I have the New Congress put a temporary ban on both Executive Orders and Presidential Pardons. Ultimately, I set up a panel of four - two from each party, three of which must approve any Executive Order or Presidential Pardon. The constitution dictates that Congress creates law, not the President. And the Presidential Pardon must be for legitimate reasons again, never again to sell access to the Oval Office .
Couldn't agree more about the absurdist modifier "conservative" before "Republican." Hasn't been any such thing since the Reagan years, and it's reached a crescendo today. Radicals, is what this generation of MAGA-heads are, shot through with nihilism dressed up as proletarian populism.

They are the party of methodical efforts to cut taxes until it will, supposedly, become obvious that we can not afford to invest in our country and its people. Why is today's piece by Lawrence the first time I have read of this? Good on her to have written it, yet where were all the other commentators over the last fifty years?
And — I'd laugh, if this were funny — congratulations to Lawrence for correctly predicting that Trump and his minions would soon enough leverage what was not even a lapse of security — the capture of the gunman at the first point of security at the Correspondent's Dinner — to arrange for the taxpayers to assume the costs for the new military bunker and ball room from those private donors who had originally promised to pay for it!

It has been a pack of vandals since Nixon, and now it openly favors legalized theft, and rape, and slavery.
